OUR PRODUCT IS OUR PROSE:

• A 'Come to Jesus' exposition from one of my supporting characters in my novel Black Jack. Two women who were once best friends would now come to terms, Eva our heroine and Lilly, her roommate and stage partner in the magic show. Black-Jack pg. 265.

"Lilly placed the receiver on the table instead of in the cradle, she was primed for a fight and now she would have one. 'Fair? When have they ever been fair? Look what they've done to you, to me.' 

•A sudden wave of realization washed over Eva, 'Then this is about what they did to you?'

•'You're damn right it's about what they did to me. Do you know how long I worked with him? Sweated my ass off on that stage? Escaped the close calls in the one-horse towns we played back then before he met you?  Before Deborah I was his confidant, his partner. You remember.' Lilly's usually pleasing appearance had been turned into a grotesque mask flush with emotions long hidden. 'Then suddenly everything changes. In the blink of an eye, new voices are in control and it's thanks for everything. Goodbye and good luck. They denigrated my contribution and left me with nothing. What's a washed-up actress like me to do anyway when the music stops and the merry-go-round ride is over? Nobody wants a has been.'"
